Want to get Married without Too Much Expense? You can Elope or Have a Microwedding

You want to get married, but a large traditional wedding isn’t in the budget. You don’t want an impersonal courthouse ceremony either. You’re not alone! There is no need to take on astronomical debt when you tie the knot with each other by eloping or having a microwedding. I love helping couples that want a ceremony that comes from the heart at with the simple ease of an elopement or microwedding.

Microweddings have gained in popularity for couples that only want between 5 to 50 guests in attendance while still having the beauty of a wedding. This way, they can enter into marriage without incurring astronomical debt. Martha Stewart Weddings posted this about microweddings,”By throwing a tiny wedding, couples get the gift they want most: time with their nearest and dearest.”

“Just the two of us” can be so romantic and personal. I’ve performed these ceremonies with feet in the sand, standing in the forest and in a hotel room with soft candlelight.  I’ve even had couples that simply want me to be there to simply sign their marriage license. I can even do this with sincerity as they hold hands.

Recently, I had the experience of marrying a couple that wanted to “tie the knot” as a surprise for their family and friends with a microwedding. They had just bought their first home. They invited their family and friends to a Housewarming. To the delight of their guests, they were actually married in their backyard. It was a day filled with absolute surprise and joy.

On the last day of 2019, I performed a ceremony with a couple who flew in from Texas to get married in a Redwood Tree forest. It was just the two of them, a photographer to capture the beauty of their ceremony (and sign their license as a witness), and myself to join them together in marriage.. They rented a small home in the Redwood Forest that was perfect. I spent time with the groom on a deck listening to the soft flow of a creek that wound its way through the trees. As the bride was getting ready we talked intimately about his love for this incredible woman and what his commitment of marriage meant to him. In those moments, he was able to go beyond his nervousness and prepare his heart deeply for the crossing of the threshold into marriage that was about to occur. I then was able to bless the bride in her room just before she came out to meet her groom for a first look. What an amazing way to enter into a new decade with the trees standing as witnesses during their ceremony!

If a microwedding or an elopement is a reflection of you as a couple, then it’s a great way to celebrate your love and commitment! Let’s get you married your way!
